Online video has rapidly grown in popularity in just a few short Internet years.

There are over 100 video hosting websites online but the most popular is YouTube.com with millions of internet users flocking to it each month.

 

Google was quick to see this trend and started its own Video Sharing/Hosting service at http://video.google.com but it has never reached the popularity level of YouTube, so Google got out their corporate check book and their rival!

Google Video combined with YouTube.com now see's Google becoming the leader for online video.

YouTube was only created in 2005 and was the brainchild of three individuals that once worked for Paypal. It is so popular it makes up 60% or more of all videos that are viewed online. And in a very short time, YouTube has become a phenomenon. There are several reasons why YouTube had turned into a phenomenon. For those that are interested in posting video clips it’s easy to navigate, and easy to learn to use. And for those of you looking for some alternative entertainment it offers just that.

If you are an unregistered user, you can watch as many videos as you like.

However, once you become a registered user you are allowed to upload as many videos as you like. There are a variety of channels on YouTube.com, which you able to focus on what’s the right channel for you. Below are some common terms:

"YouTuber" – is someone who views YouTube videos.

"Director Account" – is someone uploads a lot of videos to display on YouTube.

"Musicians" – Will produce videos of their solos or bands and upload, as well as uploading lessons on how to play any particular instrument, on learning cords, or even how to sing, to name just a few.

"Comedian" – Comics love to produce and then upload their video clips to YouTube.

"Guru" – There are all kinds of people around the world that are experts in one or more things, which post that expertise as a video to YouTube. They may tell you how to do something, teach you about a specific thing, or provide a host of information that will benefit viewers in their field of expertise.

Little did Steven Chen 28, and Chad Hurley 29, ever dream that as the founders of YouTube they would find themselves suddenly famous.

As a graduate, Chad went to work for Paypal, and it was the bonus he received when eBay purchased Paypal that funded his YouTube venture. And the rest was history. Two rich young men who never dreamed of becoming famous suddenly found themselves just that “famous.”

And it’s easy for you to join YouTube and upload your own video. To become a member just visit the YouTube signup page, choose your username and your password, fill out the form, and click sign up.

That’s it; you are ready to start uploading videos. You’ll need a camcorder, webcam, cell phone, or some video device to make your video. You can upload .MOV, .MPG, AVI, and WMV files. Uploading is easy. Log in click upload videos, add your description, tags, and other relevant information, and in minutes you’ll

There are plenty of popular YouTube directors. LakituUploads, DisneyMediaOnly, Mysterboo, Iluuiisgerado2, cutegirl730, pianistseeker, jenalicousss, spinmoss, and solarblade00 are just ten of the popular family friendly directors. Of course, there are plenty more. You’ll have to find your own favourite directors, and then be sure to support them.

YouTube is an interesting site and one of the attractions is likely the unpredictability about what you might find. Let your imagine run wild, but we warned it’s not a safe place for children to visit on there own!
