Provides network address translation, addressing, name resolution and/or intrusion prevention services for a home or small office network.

Default setting in Windows XP Professional: Automatic
Default setting in Windows XP Home: Automatic

# This Windows service depends on the following system components:

Network Connections > Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

Windows Management Instrumentation > Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

Keep in Automatic startup type even if you have a 3rd party firewall installed.

The Windows Firewall service in Windows XP SP2 replaces the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) service in earlier versions of Windows XP.
