Marc Says:

Windows CardSpace is a framework which securely stores digital identities of a person on their PC. It provides a unified and secure way of choosing the identity for a particular transaction, such as logging in to a website or using a CardSpace enabled application.

CardSpace allows a user to create “self-issued identities” or a trusted identity provider such as a bank to create “managed identities”.

CardSpace is available as part of Microsoft's .NET Framework 3.0 for Windows XP SP2
