Why Use A Video Codec Bundle?
The main reason folks seem to use
a video codec bundle is laziness!
Yep it is true....
I support many users in the
Microsoft Newsgroups and this is the number one reason they give for
downloading these bundles.
Often if the users actually took a
little time to identify which codec they require for their video or
music track then they could save themselves a whole bunch of
trouble!
Is Using A
Video Codec Bundle Safe?
You often see these video
codec bundles advertised (for free) on websites BUT here is my warning:
1) Users simply DO NOT need
to download and install a bunch of codec's that have been "hacked"
from legitimate sources! They simply need one codec they are looking
for and it is usually very simple to find it using Google...
2) MANY of these websites
that claim to have a these bundles actually are nothing
more than spy ware sites that will infect your system!!!
3) Time and time again I
have had to help users recover their systems because they USED one
of these video codec bundles! Just do not do it...
Basically AVOID such a fruitless
task and get a valid codec for the file you want to play...
What Should I Do Instead
Of Using A Video Codec Bundle?
If it is an .avi file you
are trying to play you can use the GSpot tool from
Headbands
to identify which codec you require...
If you want to check what
codec are installed on your Windows XP computer you can use my free
utility
