Internet Security Zones

In Windows XP.

You may be familiar with "Security Zones" in Internet Explorer 6. These are important settings that can handle the potentially dangerous items such as Active X controls. (If you are not familiar with Security Zones, then please do read up on them as they form an important part of your PC's security.)

Open IE6 now.

Go to Tools > Internet Options > Security

You will see zones for the Internet, Local Intranet, Trusted Sites and Restricted Sites.

But NO "Local Computer"...

Suppose you have saved Web pages on your hard drive and someone tries to run them - but they have an embedded Active X control? or other such high risk?

Well you CAN add the "Local Computer" to the rest of the zones by:

Yes you guessed it - with a registry Tweak!

Here's how:

Step 1)

Open the registry editor and Navigate to:

HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\InternetSettings\Zones\0

Step 2)

Now locate the sub key called:

Flags

Now double-click this sub key and change the value from 21
to 1

Step 3)

Close the registry editor. You will need to log off for the Tweak to take effect.

And that is it! The "Local Computer" will now appear!

IMPORTANT: This procedure contains information about modifying the registry. Before you modify the registry, make sure to back it up and make sure that you understand how to restore the registry if a problem occurs.
