In the UK we have an advert running on TV showing members of the
public phoning an insurance company for a house insurance quote.
It could be ANY insurance company. Lots of them around, so why
think this one is any different?
Well when you see the person getting the quote - they dance around their living room with joy!
Now I know this is just a TV advert - but it got me thinking about
SiteBuildIt!...
You see there are plenty of hosting companies out there on the
Internet who can offer you web space to build a website. Then there
are other hosting companies who will even give you online tools to

I know, because as an IT professional I have used many of these

Cascading Style Sheets
By using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) I can maintain continuity of text
and titles across the whole website - from just one small file. If I
need to make a change to the way any text looks then all I do is
change the relevant line in the "CSS file" and it updates ALL the
pages, whether that be 10 or 100! What a time saver...
Drop In Box's
Over the last year many folks have installed software on their
computers to stop "Pop Ups" appearing when they surf the Web. What
started out as an excellent tool to increase conversions to your
newsletter or product sales, has gradually been abused by many
websites. Now most folks will try and stop these "Pop Ups" occurring.
However, there is a way to still get YOUR visitors attention and NOT
be blocked by anti pop up software.. This
is by the use of "Drop In" box's... For an example visit my

With the introduction of the new HTML compatibility module I can
now host JavaScript files. And that is how I create the drop in box's.
Notice I say "host" ? This is an important point.... Many Search
Engine spiders that crawl the Internet looking for websites DO NOT
like JavaScript. So by hosting the JavaScript as a separate file and
NOT putting it ALL in the web page HTML - I get a spider friendly
page!
Acrobat PDF
If there is one type of file that can be
downloaded and read on virtually any computer it is the Adobe Acrobat
PDF file. (.PDF) This makes it an ideal file to create downloadable
content that your visitors can access when they are offline.
I have created an article on my website that can be a little
technical to some visitors. www.updatexp.com/messenger_service_spam.html So I created a PDF
file of the article and made it available as a download. It has proved
very popular! And of course YOU can brand this PDF file with your
website logo etc...
Audio Files
On the same page www.updatexp.com/messenger_service_spam.html I have also placed a
link to an audio file that visitors can download.
What I found is that some folks wanted me to provide them with help
over the phone - whilst they were at their computer. Obviously I could
NOT do that - BUT an audio file of me talking them through the article
whilst they are at their computer can!
Now using audio does raise many issues about what file format to
use. For example my website is aimed at Windows XP users, therefore I
offer the audio file in Windows Media Audio. But if you have a
more general audience then no problem! Ken has made sure that you can
use Real Audio too!
Talking Newsletter
I can now
produce an Audio file of me talking about issues that
concern my newsletter subscribers... By "being there" in the same
room as them, I can build up a better rapport and so eventually
build a more profitable relationship with them...
Talking Newsletters are now
starting to appear in every industry sector - SiteBuildIt makes it
easy to host one yourself!
These are only a FEW of the things I could do with the new HTML
compatibility module - And I am only just getting started... (I
have not even started with video yet...)
