Microsoft Max Technology

Marketing says: "Microsoft Max is built on the next-generation WinFX Runtime Components technology that will drive the development of Windows Vista applications."

Now, what is Max, exactly?

Microsoft Max is the codename for a technology in development by Microsoft. A beta version of Max which can be downloaded from the Microsoft website, is currently an application for creating virtual photo albums and distributing them online in a peer-to-peer fashion.

It has been said by Microsoft that Max runs on the WinFX Runtime Components used on the yet-to-be-released Windows Vista (formerly codenamed Longhorn), or on the English version of Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Features of the Max technology demo include the ability to annotate photos and arrange them in custom layouts and slideshows. There is also a 3D Mantle View feature.

The longer-term goal of Max is to facilitate peer-to-peer communications of many kinds of files, not just photos.

No decisions have been made as to how the Max technology will be brought to market as actual products.

NB - This is NOT for the novice! But if you want to look at what technology could be coming to you soon from Microsoft, then MAX is going to be a very interesting peek :-)

There is a video of an Interview with the guys who created the technology:
