Download IE6 SP1

Article Published by Marc Liron - Microsoft MVP

Can you download IE6 SP1 in FULL?

Microsoft do NOT give you the ability to download the entire IE6 SP1 from their website. Instead they give you a 500KB exe file that you download and then run from your machine.

But what it you want to download the FULL IE6 SP1...?

You may have more than one PC connected via dialup and do not want to spend an hour installing on each machine.

Well it IS possible to pull down the FULL set of files, then save to CD so you can update all your PC's quickly.

NB - If you already have Windows XP SP1 (and later) installed then you HAVE Internet Explorer SP1 installed too...

How to download the full IE6 SP1...

-First of all you will need to visit the Microsoft website and get the IE6 SP1 installer using this link: ie6setup.exe  (479kb)

-Create the following folder on your computer:

C:\Downloads

-Now save this file to this location on your computer.

-Go to the Start Menu and select Run

A small window will appear. type in the following including the quotation marks:

"C:\Downloads\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"

A screen like the one below will appear:

NB - Please note that sometimes the process will fail, if this happens try again later and you should have more success. Not sure why, but sometimes you just can't access the Microsoft download site!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

You then have to accept the agreement before you can proceed. When you click on the next button a window like the one below will appear:

Now you can select where you want the files to be saved.

Then select the operating system you require. (You can select ALL if you wish... this would be 49MB)

Then click the next button and a window like the one below will appear showing you the download progress for ie6 sp1 files:

You will now download ie6 sp1 onto your PC!

Just open C:\Downloads folder and there are the files... You can now burn them into CD and install onto other computers as appropriate.
