0x80070002 Windows Update Error

Finding a solution for the 0x80070002 error 

 

When you try to connect to the Microsoft Windows Update Web site, you may receive the following error message:

Initialization Error 0x80070002

This is a fairly common Windows Update error and hopefully this article will help you resolve the problems you are having.

 

What causes Error 0x80070002

# The issue may occur when there are issues related to network connectivity.

# This error may occur if there is a content mismatch in the DataStore folder.
 


To resolve this error, use the following methods:

Resolution Suggestion One:

# Be patient!


The Internet is a dynamic network. Sometimes, it takes more than one attempt for a connection to work.

Typically, you can connect to Windows Update successfully after a short time when this issue occurs!!!

Resolution Suggestion Two:

# Delete the contents of the DataStore folder:


Stop the Automatic Updates service

Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Delete the contents of the DataStore folder

Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
Click OK.
Open the DataStore folder.
Delete all contents of the DataStore folder.
Close the window.

Start the Automatic Updates service

Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.

Starting the service will take a moment.
